Bedford Birch Skinny Shaker Door Style in Pecan
This is our Koch Classic Cabinetry line in the Bedford Door and Birch Pecan stain. Bedford is considered a "skinny shaker" or "slim shaker" door style. This take on a classic construction can be very transitional, depending on how you apply it to your project. In some settings, it can look contemporary; in others craftsman. It also looks great for bathroom vanity designs.
Just look at how amazing that woodgrain looks! It's ok if you need to do a double-take and zoom in a bit, we'll wait. Great right!? Slab-style doors or other styles that include large center panels or spaces of woodgrain can lead to maximum opportunities for woodgrain character to shine. If this isn't the look you are after, consider a painted finish or a more ornate or structured door style to break up the wider wood areas. The kitchen is fitted with undermount full-extension drawer glides with soft close dovetailed drawer boxes. There is also a tall pantry cabinet that is 36" wide with adjustable roll out shelving inside. We offer tall pantries in many widths. 36" is the widest you can go for this tall cabinet and still keep a single wide shelf and a clear opening when doors are open.
A Super-Sized Kitchen Island
The kitchen design fills the whole back wall of the room and includes one large single-level island. The island is a great place to showcase the MSI quartz countertops in Calacatta Ultra. The island is set at one level and measures an impressive size of about 10 1/2" feet by 4 feet, with an undermount kitchen sink centered on the side facing the cooking wall.
There is an overhang for seating on the back side of the island, and beneath that overhang is a row of hidden cabinetry. Why pay for custom panels to be made for the back of your island if you could also score more storage while giving the same wainscot look? Open the full-height doors at the back of the island, and voila, there is bonus storage!
With an island this scale, our lighting designer at Village Home Stores worked with the homeowners to find the right size and rhythm for the lighting above. A pair of woven spheres about 18 ½" each was the perfect choice. These are the 3-light "Florence" pendants from our Golden lighting line with Matte Black accents. There is a size larger and a size smaller in this same series. We also have this pendant hanging in the Village showroom right now if you would like to see the rope texture in person.
Stainless Steel Kitchen Appliances
Much like the previous kitchen we featured on the blog, this appliance suite includes a freestanding double oven range. This time in a gas model from our KitchenAid line. The KFGD500 unit boasts a combined total of 6.0 cu. ft. oven capacity and a 5 gas burner cooktop, including an oval-shaped center burner perfect for griddles and large pans. The burners range in power from 5,000 to 17,000 BTUs, allowing you to have a gentle simmer or a rolling boil.
Because we have back-to-back kitchen stories to share with you, including double oven ranges, we thought we would tag in an expert on the subject. Rachele is one of our appliance experts and she also happens to really have opinions on this cooking category. For the past 14 years, Rachele has had a double oven. In her previous home, she had a KitchenAid unit like this with an electric cooktop. In her new home, she has a Whirlpool double oven with an electric cooktop.

Above that cooktop is a 600 CFM chimney-style hood that has 3 speeds and a "Boost" option. If you ever have an "oops" moment involving smoke or smells in the kitchen, select Boost, and for 10 minutes, this hood will spring into action for you. The hood has auto-speed sensing abilities to keep the fan at the right speed based on the heat it senses coming from the cooktop below. It also comes with both LED and halogen lighting for your cooking surface.
The French Door refrigerator in the kitchen comes with a newly designed in-door ice system. Mounted to the inside of the door, this space-saving design leaves you with more refrigerator space inside. This refrigerator boasts the largest capacity in its class (23.8 cu.ft.) and comes with full-extension self-close crispers, a custom temperature pantry area, and a slide-away shelf.
There is even a designated space for fresh herb storage and an under-shelf prep zone pan that is oven safe and dishwasher safe. The oven interiors are finished with KitchenAid's iconic blue enamel coating. The larger (lower) oven includes True Convection options using a heating element and fan to make sure that the entire oven is heated to (and stays at) the perfect temp you want. Our best-selling badge-less Maytag 8959 dishwasher has no handle style or Maytag logo, so this Kewanee kitchen gets a great value and performance without anyone noticing it isn't all the same brand.
