Maybe I'm going color-blind.. but am I the only one who thinks the "gold" on the iPhone 6 looks more like pink or some type of other similar color. It doesn't look gold to me. If they're advertising it as gold I would at least want it to look like gold. If it was I'd buy it in an instant but as it is now I'd rather go with space grey.

Maybe it will look differently in hand compared to the promotional pictures on their website?

It's much more a rose gold if anything.

I would assume it will be the same as the iphone 5 gold i.e a champagne colour rather than jewellery gold just like those champagne colour cd decks and hifi equipment back in the day

I tend to think like you when I look at the pictures on Apple's website, but I saw pictures on Wired and Anandtech and it doesn't seem pink or anything to me there. If you haven't seen them, here are the links :

I think it's really beautiful there. I'm still scared that it might look a bit "girlish", but I'm going to buy a case anyway so...

Thanks for those pics. It does look more like gold there to me, but I wonder if it doesn't have anything to do with the high exposure and the strong lighting. Either way, I'll have to check out this phone in store before I decide on color.

You're welcome. I honestly think the pictures and videos from journalists are much more "real" in term of color than Apple's picture. First, Apple's picture are maybe not pictures but only 3D renders. I don't know if it's the case for every picture but I think it's true for at least some of them. Anyway, they are photoshopped to be perfect and shoot with unreal lightning. At least with the pictures I showed you, you know it's "real". Most of the time it will look like that or darker, I don't doubt it.

Here's walt mossberg reply about my question.

------------------------------

Looks the same at a glance. But I don't have a gold 5s for comparison.

Hi Walt, great iPhone 6’s review on the recode.net. i have a question about the gold iPhone 6. looking at the gold iPhone 6, the back is clearly has a darker shade of colour. can you confirm that? or the gold colour is just the same as the gold iPhone 5s? thanks. hope you reply this.

The one I saw in the store reminded me of the champagne color that was popular (a while back) with cars. If you're not familiar with this, do a Google image search for "champagne car" and you'll see what I mean.

I can confirm that the 6 and 6 Plus is more of a rose/pink gold. It was extremely noticeable to me the second I picked it up at the Apple store. It's SUPER feminine looking now and I assume that was the thinking.

I would still say it is a champagne gold with perhaps a slight tint of pink, compared next to rose gold jewelry it looks more gold

I find the color quite unusual in a good way and I think it is def a unisex color but being the iPhone is so slippery, a case will cover anyway - so the bigger difference is really if you want a black or white face...

I can't imagine not getting a case for either of these models based on the design - I love the look of them so if I could I would go without but def not an option unfortunately

I think the gold is the most beautiful iPhone this year. The other two colors look bland/dull.

For me, it looks more goldish than the 5s when I'm indoors, but out in the sun, it looks a little pinkish - like a light rose gold.

Definitely pinkish "rose gold"

Phone in hand, didn't take me long to be like "wait what? why is my gold phone pretty pinkish?"

So, the online pictures make it look like matte yellow gold. In real life it's 100% pinkish, rose gold, bronze (whatever you want to call it). It's not so extreme that i'm unhappy, it was just a surprise.

So I had a day 1 AT&T iPhone 6 128GB that i walked into the store and purchased. When they set it up for me in the store, i said to myself, "ohh, it not to much of a goldish color" and went about my way. The past week, i had screen issues so I scheduled an appointment at apple store and they swapped it for me. New phone from Apple is definately More Goldish, not as near as rose gold but close. I should have taken a pic of them side by side. It was definately a difference in color.
