Heart of PC, shapes of laptop and the promise of enabling you to enjoy your game library wherever you want, whenever you want and twice as long. ROG Ally However, the question becomes inevitable: how much has it really improved compared to the ROG Ally that came out just a year ago? The quick answer: the idea is not to replace the previous model, but rather to give a boost to its star features.
As a system, ROG Ally X It is not even a simple design change, but it does not offer a generational leap or anything similar. It is a new model that aspires to be something more or less intermediate. In fact, I can tell you that the most essential aspects of the machine, such as the processor or the integrated graphics card, are the same as the latest revision of the ROG Ally (the NH001W model) that you can buy today for 250 euros less from the store itself. from ASUS. So is it worth it?
To begin with, if you are one of those who are bored of having to play with the machine plugged in, you will be happy to know that one of the new features is that the battery has been doubled and, for that matter, the ergonomics have been improved. And that in a laptop is absolutely essential. Above all, when according to the manufacturer the impact of this addition is minimal on the total weight. But that is only one of the aspects to take into account, since that means juggling the price. Luckily, at VidaExtra we have brought together all the features and news in one place, starting with the one you are probably wondering about: when will the ROG Ally X be available.
Release date
The first is the first: ROG Ally X will be available starting July 22, 2024, and that is less than two months from its official presentation. ASUS has opened reservations from its official website and will begin shipping the units from July 21, with the first run selling out in record time. However, a Notify Me button has been enabled for those interested.
It is expected that, as in the ROG Ally of 2023, the opening of reservations in new points of sale beyond the ASUS website itself will be enabled in a phased manner. However, as usually happens in these systems (including the Steam Deck) it is relatively normal that demand forces the production of units to be rethought to accommodate the volume of reserves. Which brings us to the second section.
The price of ROG Ally X and what it includes
The launch price of ROG Ally X It is 899 euros in the official ASUS store and in the United States we are talking about 799 dollars. Shipping costs are free and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are included in all new units.
In addition to the ROG Ally X itself, a series of compatible or themed accessories and peripherals have been announced, including a new carrying case with improvements over the previous design and different types of power adapters. As expected, all from a ROG brand that fully supports the initiative, although in this case there is no price for each accessory.
ROG Ally X specifications
The key to understanding the ROG Ally X review goes through three concepts that encompass the X added at the end of the name: Extra, Extreme, Expand. The general idea of ASUS is a system for those PC gamers who, in one way or another, had begun to modify the original models to expand their possibilities by offering more battery, more storage or better cooling. So to contemplate changes in ownership, it is necessary to put both systems face to face.

Here we have to make a special point: according to the official ASUS presentation, one of the features that has been implemented to expand storage is doubling the space, offering up to 1TB of margin so that we can install whatever we want, which is a total success. , but a step has also been taken in another equally significant direction: it is now easier to replace components.
In other words, if we want even more storage, it has been simplified for us to take the initiative, making it easier and more convenient for us to replace the storage with a larger one that we already have or that we are considering buying. Always under our responsibility, of course. Which brings us squarely to the other key point: design.
Let's talk about the ROG Ally X redesign
In order to offer a new ROG Ally model and make it distinguishable at a glance, ASUS chose to change the color to a much more elegant black while maintaining the same buttons and their layout. In fact, we will continue to have Aura Sync technology that will illuminate the sticks; although the crosshead is different and closer to that of the legendary Mega Drive. And that is always a success.
Although the internal components have been changed, it hardly has an impact on the weight and dimensions compared to the ROG Ally of 2023: 70 grams of weight are gained and it now has more depth, although the same width and length. In addition, the shapes have been rounded, which makes it reminiscent of Steam Deck a little more. Things as they are.
The Sticks, by the way, have received an improvement with the ROG Ally X and now ASUS claims that they will offer 5 million rotation cycles, which is double that of the console that came out last year. And, already, macro buttons have been added in the area opposite the screen.
Perhaps the most striking thing within the redesign and ergonomics are its triggers, which do not deviate too much from what we already saw but take a step forward in terms of ergonomics and are a little better integrated together with the upper buttons.
In the process, more connections have been added in the upper area, including more USB and even a Thunderbolt 4. All in all, the two front speakers of the 2023 model are still a pleasure and they are back with their intelligent amplifier with Dolby Atmos. And if we play online, we will have bidirectional noise cancellation with AI.
Finally, and in order to put together elements that are neither visible nor touchable but that make a difference, it is worth remembering that the ROG Ally are systems designed to broadcast or receive streaming and that they benefit from WiFi 6E technology that, In theory, it supports 4 times more network capacity and 75% less latency than WiFi 6. Something that we can only verify when we have them in our hands.
