A Guide to Being a Freshie from an Ex-Permafreshie | Chapter One - Character Creation | Fandom (2024)

Hello! If you're reading this, you must be a freshie, or a good player who's looking to further expand my tips and help the freshie community graduate!

Section One : Big Choices

Having been a starter once, I understand the pain of not understanding what to do. When you first make a character, you have to choose many things, and on your first run, you might not know what to do! Your attunement, origin, and weapon type will DRASTICALLY change your gameplay experience, so take these words to heart.

Tip 1: Know the Elements!

Each attunement/element is completely different. Some have different paths to follow later down the line (Ex. Fire can be come Eruption/Lava serpent, Ice can become Crystal) so you need to know what each one is! First, Flamecharm, my personal favorite, is a big damage, big AOE style element. You can pull off big combos and huge damage with it! Second, Frostdraw, or ice, is the "slow your opponent and stay away from me" element. Third, Thundercall, is the "Imma go fast and still do damage" element, it was also my first element, until I learned I liked Flamecharm. Next, Galebreathe. Galebreathe is the wind element which has a special ability to stop any mantras on your enemy after hitting a few wind attacks in a row. Finally, Shadowcast, the "Ether stealing" element. There may be more elements later on, but right now, there isn't (There was an update where they released Ironsing for 2 minutes, but deleted it after. Hopefully It comes back!)

Tip 2: Know the Origins!

Origins are the "Spawn Points" of the early game. You can change this later, but this is just where you start the game. There are currently five origins currently in the game, but at the beginning, you only have 2. There's Etris, Isle of Vigils, Voidheart, Minityrsa, and The Depths. I reccomend Vigils as a starter. Once you get Voidheart or Minityrsa, go to them.

Tip 3: Don't Try to Be a Hero

Once you start playing, after looking up a tutorial on how to get to erisia, I'm sure you'll see people getting attacked. If you see a person with weird black shadows/particles, that might be a voidwalker (someone who uses the voidheart origin) that's on a bounty hunt. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TRY TO SAVE THEM AS YOU ARE 90% LIKELY TO DIE TRYING. MANY VOIDWALKERS/GANKERS ARE GOOD AT FIGHTING TEAMERS, OR THE HUNTED MIGHT ATTACK YOU THINKING YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL THEM TOO.

Tip 4: Use the Wiki

The wiki is your BEST FRIEND when you need to know stats for talents, mantras, oaths, murmurs, weapons, and armor. It can show you tips, facts, opinions, so if you need to know anything come here first!

Tip 5: Only play if you want to

The biggest thing I have struggled with, is boredom. I get bored of the game then die trying to have fun. If you don't want to play, then don't.

Section Two : Farming

Tip 1: Erisia

Usually the first place people farm enemies, having bandits, mudskippers, authority and entries fights, and sharkos, it's a good place to farm at the early game. People do Take here, so be careful.

Tip 2: Minityrsa

Minityrsa (commonly called "Mini") is the snow Island, containing many ministry scouts, hive drone, and crypt enemies, as well as brainsuckers. All of these (aside from maybe the crypt enemies and hive drone) can be beat at power 1 if you know how to fight them.

Tip 3: Aratel

Aratel as a whole is a good place to farm mid-late game. It has good EXP and is easy to navigate once you understand it. The enemies are easier to beat as you get further progressed.

Tip 4: Start a slot to practice fighting

When you start out, I recommend paying that $5 and making 2 more slots. One needs to be used as a bank, so if you get good items you can't use, you can out them there to keep them safe. IF YOU FIND ENCHANTS DO NOT EQUIP THEM WITHOUT CONSIDERING THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT ON YOUR BANK/PASSING IT DOWN AFTER DYING UNLESS YOU HAVE 100 ECHOES. The third slot needs to be a "Practice slot" to go to different places and practicing parrying, dodging, and fighting in general.

Section Three : Opinions

Tip 1: Don't under/overestimate people

many people (including myself) hate people with different enchants, armor, weapons, or even names. I reccomend not having this opinion as you will likely start fights with good players, or miss fights with bad ones. TAKE YOUR OWN RISKS AT YOUR OWN PACE.

Tip 2: Prioritize Safety and Have Common Sense

Many of my mistakes are because I fail to realize the common sense that is trying to tell me to do something. Be safe.

In conclusion, enjoy how you play and be sure to ask the community if you ever need help!
